Compulsory Requirements For NIN Data Correction

1: The original copy of the NIN slip issued to you after the first registration

2: The printout of the remittal retrieval reference (RRR) number given at the bank after payment/ or a printout stating the payment details, if the payment was made online.

3: (i) Adult Modification Above the age of 16

An application letter duly signed by the applicant for change in the date of birth, name, address, phone number etc.
Applicant are to address the letter to the NIMC DG/CEO

(ii) Minor Modification below the age of 16

An application letter duly signed by the applicant’s parent for change in the date of birth, name, address, phone number etc. s(he) wishes to modify for their child (ren) ward (s) stating the reason.

4: Applicants are to present Supporting document to back the proposed changes to be submitted accordingly.

Supporting Documents Needed For NIN Data Correction/ Modification

1: For Date Of Birth Modification

Applicant needs a document like court affidavit, proof of age, at least two (2) document showing your age (Like birth certificate, attestation of age, school certificate, SSCE (WAEC, NECO) Certificate etc), payment receipt.

Procedure For NIN Data Modification Or Correction

Step 1: Visit the enrollment centre with a supporting document listed above e.g court affidavit, proof of age, certificate obtained, sworn affidavit, marriage certificate, payment receipt etc.

Step 2: Data modification form will be issued to the applicant to fill

Step 3: Applicant data modification forms will be vetted by the NIMC official to cross check the information filled on the form against the supporting document provided.

NOTE: Applicants who can not read nor write should come along with someone who can do the form filling for them.

Step 4: Applicants pre-filled information will be entered on the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) software by a NMIC enrollment officer.

Step 5: The enrollment officer will ask the applicant to double check his/her information using the applicant monitor to check the errors.

Step 6: If the applicant is satisfied with his/her information, the biometrics of the applicant will be captured.

Step 7: After completing the enrollment, a transaction ID slip will be issued to the applicant as an evidence of the transection.

Step 8: The former National Identification Number (NIN) slip will be retained by the enrollment officer, if the modified data will affect details on the NIN slip, but if not affected, it will be returned to the applicant.

Step 9: The applicant will be told to come back for the NIN slip within 2-5 working days or more, as it is subjected to speed of the network.

Step 10: A new National Identification Number slip having the same NIN will be issued to the applicant after processing.

NOTE: If the modification made affected the information on the applicants card, the following process will take place.

Here – A card replacement form will be filled and the old National (I.D) Identification card retrieved.

The New modified National e-I.D card will be issued to applicant within three (3) months after re-issuance of NIN slip.

NOTE: The service fee for date of birth correction in NIN is fifteen thousand naira (#15,000), while the fee for other modifications is five hundred naira (#500). remember it is non-refundable as you are to pay through the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) into TSA (CBN).

Step 1. Visit www.remita.net to start the payment process

Step 2. Click Bills & Purchase

Step 3. Click on option ‘Pay Billers’ on Bills and Purchase button

Step 4. Who do you want to pay – type in ‘National Identity Management Commission

Name or service/ purpose – chose modification of DOB or correction of Date of Birth, if you want to modify your date of birth.

Amount to pay – will be sent based on your choice in the step above.

Select Currency – Select your currency (Naira or dollar)

Payer’s Name – type your full name

Payer Email Address – Type in Your email adress

Step 4. Click on the “Submit” icon to proceed to payment. A new page which is the invoice (receipt) will come up which will display your (RRR) – Remita Retrieval Reference at the op of the page.
